Anglia To Broadcast More Factual Programming
Anglia Television has successfully applied to the Independent Television Commission to allow it to reduce the amount of entertainment programming it broadcasts in favour or more factual-based shows.
The ITV broadcaster will be reducing its entertainment programming from 28 minutes per week to 16 and arts from 41 minutes a week to 36, whilst increasing factual material (excluding documentaries and current affairs) from 38 minutes to 55.
A spokesman from Anglia told Newsline that the move was aimed at broadcasting more programmes with a regional bias. He said it was difficult to produce entertainment programmes such as gameshows which maintained a regional flavour, whereas the programmes which would be brought into the schedule, such as political and topical discussion shows, would better reflect the region’s interests.
