Rovio Entertainment has announced that it will be launching a year-long Angry Birds cartoon series around the world, a first in video distribution history.
Fans across the globe will be able to tune in and watch the animated videos on smartphone and tablet devices via a dedicated channel that will be available in Rovio games, as well as on selected video-on-demand channels and Smart TVs.
This is the first time in industry history that a video has been broadcast on connected devices on a global scale.
The series will consist of 52 episodes that will tell the story of the Angry Birds and villainous pigs, released weekly from 16 March for TV broadcast and from 17 March for app and on-demand platforms.
“We’ve long wanted to tell our fans the story of the Angry Birds and the Bad Piggies, to introduce their personalities and their world in detail,” said Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio.
“We’re delighted to introduce all this through our new channel, with easy and instant access to the stories in the palm of your hand. With over 1.7 billion downloads, we can reach a far wider and more engaged global audience than traditional distribution would allow.
“Launching the channel, and partnering up with some of the best video-on-demand providers and TV networks, is an important milestone for us on our journey towards becoming a fully fledged entertainment powerhouse.”
Nick Dorra, Head of Animation at Rovio, added: “We want to combine the feel of cartoon classics with modern twists on an unprecedented scale. Our team has been working tremendously hard to once again delight our fans with a new way to experience these loveable characters.”
Users will need to install the latest Angry Birds update to access these exclusive videos.
