Another Record Text Messaging Month In June

UK text messaging in June showed no signs of slowing as the Mobile Data Association (MDA) recorded 2.10 billion individual sent messages, setting yet another record month.
June, is the sixth consecutive month to report a total of in excess of 2 billion messages, growing by 28% year-on-year to set the new record.
The MDA has launched an initiative in conjunction with Shearings Holidays to promote text messaging to older users at a series of workshops across the country.
The workshops, held for the over 50’s at Wyevale Garden Centres across the country, ran throughout June and were hugely successful with up to 200 visitors a time receiving guidance from experts.
The workshops have also opened up the benefits of text messaging to minority groups. The MDA states that one elderly couple visiting a roadshow were amazed at how easy text messaging actually is and did not realise that handsets can vibrate rather than ring – a huge benefit as one of them is deaf.
The workshop programme is set to continue as part of the MDA’s ongoing education initiative for older consumers.
Last month the MDA revealed that 16.5 million people in the UK are now able to send and receive photo messages and e-mail via their mobile phones. However, those with cutting-edge mobiles are still in a minority, representing only 34.7% of the total 47.5 million mobile devices in the UK (see More Than 16.5 Million Now Use Photo Messaging).
