Cheryl Cole - The X Factor It was another winning performance for The X Factor on Saturday night, with a peak of 8.5 million viewers tuning in to see the latest batch of weirdos and dreamers giving their all for the judges.

The star-hunting reality show had an average of 8.2 million viewers – a 44% share viewing share – in its hour long slot from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.

It overlapped with the end of a Weakest Link Special, on for an hour from 7pm-8pm, and the first part of the National lottery, on for half an hour from 8pm. The BBC One shows picked up peak viewing figures of 3.7 million and four million viewers respectively, easily beaten by The X Factor.

The most viewed terrestrial programme on Friday night was that perennial favourite, BBC One soap EastEnders, with a peak of 7.1 million viewers – a 34.7% viewing share.

Over on ITV1 on Friday was Live UEFA Super Cup Football, with Manchester United going up against Zenit St Petersburg.

Man Utd were thoroughly outplayed by the Russian side, who ran out deserved 2-1 winners. A peak of 4.6 million sports fans watched the action.

Moving on to Sunday, ITV1 dominated the viewing with Coronation Street at 7.30pm grabbing a peak of 7.7 million (a 34% share), Heartbeat at 8pm getting a seven million peak (a 30.9% share) and Martin Clunes: A Man And His Dogs at 9p picking up a peak figure of 5.6 million viewers (a 23.6% share).

Unsettling one-off drama Fiona’s Story, on BBC One for an hour at 9pm, had a peak figure of 4.4 million viewers – a 20% viewing share.
