AOL UK has appointed former Virgin Radio sales controller, Giles Ivey, as director of sales for interactive marketing.
Ivey, will take up his new position later this month and will assume responsibility for maximising advertising revenues across AOL’s business development and agency sales teams. He will replace Phil Kramer who left the group earlier this year and will report to Andy Jonesco, vice president of interactive marketing.
Commenting on the appointment, Jonesco said: “Having worked at a senior level in radio at a time when it experienced significant growth, Giles is in an excellent position to grasp the online sector and to successfully translate the AOL offering to mainstream advertisers. Furthermore, his knowledge of agency sales will be crucial as more and more agencies recognise that the Internet must be central to their clients’ media strategies.”
He continued: “Online has returned to its place as the fastest-growing advertising medium in the UK so this role really captured people’s interest. The applicants were of extremely high calibre and we are delighted that Giles will be joining us to lead our sales team and drive our advertising revenues.”
Yahoo! UK and Ireland recently recruited Freeserve’s head of advertising operations, Lisa Mundy, as part of the ongoing expansion of its pan-European sales team. Mundy takes up the newly created position of head of European operations with responsibility for ensuring the smooth delivery of campaigns across a range of Yahoo! properties (see Yahoo! Expands Sales Team With More Key Appointments).
