The Radio Authority has received nine applicants for the Birmingham local licences. The Birmingham FM licence, currently held by Buzz FM Ltd, was re-advertised in October. The AM licence will make use of a frequency currently assigned to BBC radio which will be relinquished.
The AM licence will take effect from October 1 1994 and the FM from January 1 1995. Both licences cover most parts of the Birmingham area, and will be granted for eight years.
