The ITC has received two applications for the local delivery franchise for North Wales and South Cheshire (subscribers see ITC Invites Applications For Delivery Channels). By the deadline of 12 January 1998 the ITC had received applications from Cable and Wireless Communications and Metro Communications Ltd.
C&W proposes to offer service to 275,000 homes in North Wales and South Cheshire by the end of the year 2006. The company’s cash bid is £17.17.
Metro, which is entirely owned by Metro Cable TV Ltd., proposes to offer service to 295,220 homes in the area by the end of the year 2005. Its cash bid is £258,408.
The ITC will now consult a number of regulatory bodies, including Oftel, in order to judge the proposals received. The ITC expects to announce a decision later in Spring this year.
