The ITC has received two applications for the local delivery franchise for Northumberland and one application for the local delivery franchise for Fife.
The applicants for the Northumberland licence are:
Northumberland Cable & Telecoms Ltd, a company backed by the principals of the US Cable Group. The application proposes to offer the service to 97,000 homes in Northumberland by the end of the year 2003. The cash bid is £39,770.
Telewest Communications (North East) Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telewest Communications plc. The applicant proposes to serve 64,000 homes by the end of the year 2002, and has submitted a cash bid of £26,324.
The applicant for the Fife licence is:
Telewest Communications (East Lothian and Fife) Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telewest Communications plc. The applicant proposes to offer a service to 35,000 homes and business premises by the end of the year 2003, and has submitted a cash bid of £12,500.
The ITC will now consider all these applications and hopes to announce the licence winners in the summer.
