ASA Appoints BBC Executive As New Director General

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has appointed BBC secretary, Christopher Graham, as its new director general. Graham will succeed current DG, Matti Alderson, on 3 April next year. The ASA is responsible for overseeing the self-regulation of all non-broadcast advertising in the UK.

Commenting on the appointment, Graham said: “I am delighted and excited at the prospect of heading a well-established and respected body like the ASA. Self-regulation remains the best means of ensuring high standards in advertising and I intend to ensure that the system remains effective in a changing and challenging media world.”

Christopher Graham has been Secretary of the BBC since 1996 during which time he has led the Corporation’s compliance and accountability procedures.
