ASA Appoints Mail On Sunday MD As Industry Member Of Council
The managing director of the Mail on Sunday, Mike Ironside, is to replace Len Sanderson, managing director of sales at the Telegraph group, as an advertising industry member of the ASA Council.
The appointment was made by Lord Rodgers, the outgoing ASA chairman, in consultation with the new incumbent Lord Borrie, who said, “We are fortunate to have been able to appoint someone of Mike Ironside’s standing and knowledge. He will bring hands on experience of advertising and newspaper publishing to the ASA Council.”
Of the twelve people making up the ASA council, two thirds have no connection with the advertising industry and are appointed after public advertisement. The remaining third, including Ironside, are ‘industry members’, appointed for their knowledge of the business. Sanderson is stepping down after serving on the council for six years.
Ironside has held his current position at the Mail on Sunday since 1999. Before that he worked at the Daily Mail for ten years, including three years as a Sales Director. His background in agencies included working for FCB, TBWA, Chetwynd Haddons and Time & Space. Said to be “delighted” to be joining the council, he stated, “I look forward to playing my part in ensuring the very high standard of UK advertising is maintained.
