Associated New Media To Concentrate On Websites For Women

The Daily Mail & General Trust has reaffirmed that its Associated New Media (ANM) division will focus its activities on the growing market for women on the internet. As part of this strategy ANM this week announced the sale of 60% of its Soccernet.com site to Buena Vista Internet Group, a division of the Disney Company.

Martin Dunn, editor-in-chief at ANM, said: “One of the key strengths of our group is its strong affinity with women, and in particular women in the UK’s middle market. While Soccernet is the world’s favourite football site, its audience is global and predominantly male. We want to focus our energies on our strengths”.

ANM is currently working on a women’s internet portal called CharlotteStreet.com, investing £5 million in the project (see Associated Plans Women’s Website Launch). The company also recently took a 50% stake in Zoom.co.uk, an e-commerce site which predominantly targets women online (see Associated Newspapers Takes 50% Stake In Zoom.co.uk).

ANM’s focus on women comes shortly after a report by Fletcher Research found that there are now more teenage girls than boys online in the UK (see Research Shows More Teenage Girls Than Boys Online).
