Associated’s Metro Releases First Circulation Figure
London Metro, the free morning paper published by Associated Newspapers, has announced its first circulation figure for May 1999 of 286,805. This figure has been calculated under a new certificate for Bulk Distribution Publications under the ABC brand.
Metro launched in March this year with a target circulation of 350,000 (see Newsline). The paper is distributed across the London Underground network and some over-ground stations within London and the south-east.
Copies of Metro are removed from stations at the end of the morning rush hour, so as not to affect sales of Associated’s other London title, the Evening Standard. However, the Standard‘s circulation has dropped since the launch of Metro. In March, the net sales for the Evening Standard stood at 464,331; this dropped to 450,094 for April and further still to 443,029 for May.
