Attic Futura Set To Go Continental
After much speculation over its future, Attic Futura is set to be bought by the French media group, Hachette Filipacchi for around £40 million.
The UK publisher was put up for sale last year by its Australian owners, PMP. However, the German company, H Bauer soon pulled out of the bidding and a proposed £55 million deal with IPC fell through. Attic Futura publishes a variety of consumer magazines, including popular teen titles, Sugar and B.
The takeover represents Hachette’s first genuine foray into the UK publishing market and follows the appointment of Kevin Hand, former chief executive of Emap, as head of British business. The company has previously concentrated on joint ventures with the likes of IPC and Emap.
