Attic Futura Teen Titles Launch Text Services

Attic Futura is to launch SMS services for readers of two of its teen titles, Sugar and cd:uk. The services will be the first of their kind to be available on all four mobile networks and on pay-as-you go as well as monthly billing contracts.

The June issue of cd:uk, on sale on 24 May, will contain an SMS shortcode for a premium SMS ring tone service. Readers sending a message to the code can choose a ringtone from a list including Will Young’s Light My Fire, Ant and Dec’s On The Ball and Sugababes’ Freak Like Me. Meanwhile the July issue of Sugar, on sale on 31 May, will offer readers the opportunity to have messages about their favourite pop star sent to their mobile phones. Again readers send a text message to a shortcode in the magazine. Each subscriber will then receive 6 gossip messages.

Lara Wilkins, group publisher, commented: “We know all too well that our readers are becoming even more mobile phone savvy and it is fantastic that we can supply all the latest gossip straight to their phones.”

Last month Emap announced that its new teen gossip title Sneak will have its own SMS gossip service, whereby subscribers pay 25p per message to receive gossip about their favourite star (see Sneak To Offer SMS Interactivity).
