Australian Publisher To Enter Kids Magazine Market

Australia’s best selling kids magazine K-Zone is to be launched in the UK later this month, after the Redan company acquired the rights to the format.

K-Zone, which contains a mix of music and movie features, comic strips, games and sports, will target 6 to 13 year olds. The title has a net circulation of over 150,000 copies in Australia and the publishers believe it can achieve similar sales levels in the UK.

The launch will be supported by a £200,000 marketing campaign, which will include TV and radio advertising and begins later this month.

Ian Meikle, chief executive officer of Sydney based Pacific Publications, commented: “We never cease to be delighted at the universal appeal of K-Zone. The title has been a runaway success in Australia and has redefined the way publishers and advertisers talk to children. We are looking forward to K-Zone’s debut in the Northern Hemisphere.”

Robert Sutherland, managing director of Redan, added: “We are delighted to be working with Pacific to bring K-Zone to the UK. We are confident that it will be a big hit in the UK and replicate the outstanding success of Australia.”

K-Zone will face stiff competition in the kids magazine market, which has recently seen a number of new launches, including a range of specialised titles from BBC Magazines. These include Top Gear Turbo, for children interested in cars (see BBC Launches Top Gear Magazine For Children) and Action Hero magazine aimed at boys aged between four and seven (see BBC Eyes Boys Market With Action Launch).
