BARB Introduces Separate Measurement For Digital Cable Platforms
![]()
BARB has announced that from today it is introducing a measurement system for viewing of channels carried on the digital cable platform, completing its schedule for the introduction of measurement to all the digital platforms.
In the absence of access to the platform’s service information through set top boxes, BARB is using a picture matching technique to measure and report viewing. This has already been used successfully for measuring channels on the digital terrestrial channel ONdigital and will be extended for use in this context.
It is estimated that more than half a million homes in the UK and a total of 80 homes on the BARB panel now receive digital cable services. Up until now, all viewing of channels carried on these services was captured and reported under the category ‘Other’, which does not separate the channels out.
Further details will be available on the BARB website from today.
