Barclay Brothers – Scotsman Deal

According to press speculation, the Barclay Brothers are thought to be close to acquiring the Thomson Corporation’s Scottish newspapers for about £175m.

Until last week, it was a three horse race but press speculation has put its money on the Barclay brothers as firm favourites.

It is thought that Thomson was hoping to raise £230m but has settled for a significantly smaller amount, which includes the acquisition of The Scotsman, The Edinburgh Evening News, Scotland on Sunday, The Press and Journal and the Evening Express.

Nobody from the Thomson Corporation was available for comment this morning.
