Batman Forever Has Biggest Opening Day Ever

The average weekly cinema admissions for July were 2.41 million; this is an increase of 15.4% on last year, and up by over 1 million on June. The monthly total was over 10 million at 10,671,604; this is the highest monthly total so far this year. Last July’s total was 9.2 million.

The strong performance this July is despite big films such as The Flintstones and Four Weddings and a Funeral out in the same month last year; this July’s biggest films were Batman Forever, Judge Dredd, First Knight and Congo. Batman Forever dominated the box office, setting the record for the biggest opening day ever, but not quite managing to beat Jurassic Park’s opening weekend.
