BBC And Sky In Cricket Deals
Television coverage of cricket played in England is to be divided between BBC and BSkyB, in separate agreements with the Test and County Cricket Board. The deals total £58.5m over four years.
The BBC will screen 250 hours of cricket each summer, and Sky 350. The Commons national heritage select committee had recommended Test matches as one of the “listed events” which should remain on terrestrial TV; accordingly Sky did not bid and these will be covered by the BBC. BBC will also cover the NatWest Trophy one-day knockout competition. Sky has the rights to the one-day internationals and the Benson and Hedges Cup. This does not affect Sky’s rights to screen overseas Test matches.
