BBC Announces Autumn Schedule

The BBC yesterday announced the line up for its autumn programming. According to the Corporation, £168 million has been spent. This includes 75 hours of new drama and 22 fresh comedy and variety shows amongst mare than 520 hours of original BBC programming.

The Autumn schedule includes a documentary, Peoples Century which has cost the BBC £10m to make, and charts the history of the 20th century through the experiences of ordinary people.

The new season will include: The Thin Blue Line, Ben Elton’s new comedy starring Rowan Atkinson, The Frank Skinner Show and Rick Mayall provides the voice of Baby.

Drama sees an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice; The Final Cut is the last in the political trilogy of House of Cards and To Play the King. Casualty and Dangerfield are back for another series, and there is a new police series, Backup. Films to be shown in the new season include Death Becomes Her, Sneakers, Leap of Faith, My Cousin Vinny, Medicine Man, Jennifer Eight and Memoirs of an Invisible Man.

Launching the new Season, Mr Alan Yentob, the BBC1 controller said his channel was quietly closing the gap with ITV which has a 36.1% share of the audience compared with BBC1’s 31%.
