BBC Deny World Service Adverts Rumour
The BBC today denied weekend press reports that it was planning to start running advertisements on the BBC World Service. The Corporation is currently talking with advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi about devising a way of claiming a proportion of the money made by commercial radio stations that feature World Service programmes and it was thought that this was the first step towards advertisements appearing on the BBC.
Press Office spokesman Robert Wilson told Newsline: “The weekend press reports about advertising on the World Service were overblown. We are at an exploratory stage of talks with Saatchi & Saatchi, there is no chance of there being any advertising on the World Service.”
