BBC iPlayer And Nokia Team Up In New Mobile Deal

BBC IPlayer BBC iPlayer is set to become available on mobile for the first time following a deal with Nokia.

Nokia will feature the iPlayer as an application on the Nokia N96 handset from next month, allowing users to stream or download their favourite TV and radio programmes via Wi-Fi or 3G for free.

Simon Ainslie, Nokia UK’s managing director, said: “We’re very excited to bring two of the biggest brands together. We will continue to roll it out further as and when the devices meet the requirements for the products.”

Two other rival phone manufacturers are expected to roll out the iPlayer on handsets before Christmas.

The Apple iPhone has featured a beta version of the catch-up service since March and hopes to launch a full version shortly.

Matthew Postgate, BBC’s director of mobile for the BBC, said: “It’s as close to the PC version as it can get and it will become better in some ways.”
