BBC iPlayer launches on Sky+

After numerous talks and legal wranglings, the BBC iPlayer has today launched on the Sky+ box. The addition of the BBC’s video on demand service to Sky’s set top box was originally announced in January of this year.

Since then, the ITV Player, Demand 5 and Sky’s own On Demand service have launched on the platform. The confirmation that 4oD will join the line up in early 2013 will put the BSkyB offering shoulder to shoulder with Virgin Media, in terms of VoD content.

Up to 6.7 million homes with a Sky+HD box and broadband connection will be able to watch BBC on demand content.

BBC iPlayer will be available directly from Sky’s on demand programme guide, featuring many of the BBC’s most popular shows, including Doctor Who, Strictly Come Dancing and EastEnders.

This landmark deal between the BBC and Sky builds on a substantial history of industry partnerships for BBC iPlayer, which is now available on over 650 platforms and devices.
