BBC Magazines Appoints First Ever Classified Ad Director

BBC Magazines has poached Sarah Shelton from Hachette Filipacchi to become its first ever classified ad director.

Shelton will head up a 24-strong classified department working across the company’s ten monthly titles for adults, which include Radio Times, Eve and BBC Good Food.

Her appointment completes the classified team and represents the culmination of recent moves to consolidate ad sales at BBC Magazines.

The company centralised its ad sales operations last year under the leadership of group ad director, Matt Teeman. The move saw the creation of four distinct groups: Key Customer; Interests; Radio Times & Top Gear; and Women, Youth & Children (see BBC Magazines Restructures Ad Sales Operation).

Shelton will report directly to group ad director of the Interests Group, Hayley Granston, who commented: “Sarah’s experience and knowledge of classified is almost legendary and she has the passion and enthusiasm to drive the department forward.”

Shelton added: “It’s an exciting time to be joining BBC Magazines, when the emphasis is on growth, through investment in the existing portfolio and in new titles. The ad floor is dynamic and forward looking and will support the implementation of change and introduction of new ideas.”

Emap Advertising recently appointed Gary Dawson to head up its classified sales division (see Emap Appoints Dawson To Boost Classified Offering) and IPC’s Loaded, redesigned its classified section to make it more attractive for advertisers (see Loaded Revamps Classified Section For Advertisers).
