BBC Radio Listening Via The Internet Reaches Record Levels

IPod BBC radio is being listened to via the internet more than ever before, with latest monthly figures from the Corporation showing that 12.5 million requests were logged in September.

The Archers on BBC Radio 4 was the most popular on-demand programme on the BBC Radio Player, with 682,304 listens over the month, while Chris Moyles on BBC Radio 1 came in at second place with 503,088 requests.

Live online listening to BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 3 reached a new peak in September, as the stations clocked up 3.1 million and 475,000 hours respectively.

September also saw a record number of downloads of programmes in the BBC Download and Podcast Trial. 4.8 million MP3s were downloaded over the course of the month.

Radio 4’s From Our Own Correspondent saw the biggest percentage increase in downloads at 75%, equating to more than a quarter of a million downloads of the programme.

Radio 1’s Best of Moyles tops the table of weekly podcasts, with 574,067 monthly downloads, while Russell Brand’s BBC 6 Music podcast notched up 140,440 downloads during September.
