BBC releases iPlayer’s most viewed shows

BBC's IPlayer The BBC has released a list of the 10 most viewed shows on iPlayer to mark the catch-up TV service’s first birthday.

Series four of Doctor Who comes out on top, followed by this year’s two series of Top Gear, while Matt Lucas and David Walliams’ Little Britain USA sits in fourth place.

The top ten online programmes of 2008 also includes BBC1’s family drama Merlin, Survivors and series four of Alan Sugar’s The Apprentice.

Meanwhile, BBC Two’s popular chat show Mock the Week took eighth and tenth place and BBC One’s crime drama Spooks fell into ninth place.

According to the latest traffic statistics from BBC Vision, more than a million viewing requests were made on the BBC iPlayer every day last month.

Total requests for views online in November reached 237 million, according to BBC data.

This week, the BBC unveiled plans to improve the iPlayer service next year, which include making it more personal and easier to use.
