The strike planned for tomorrow by the BBC technicians’ union Bectu has been called off whilst talks continue with the conciliation service, Acas. At the end of last week Bectu threatened the BBC with a possible disruption to World Cup coverage (see BBC Strikes Could Hit World Cup).
Bectu is organising the strikes in protest to BBC plans to create a subsidiary unit of staff which would be contracted out to work privately. This, says Bectu, represents the thin end of the wedge of privatisation.
