BBC To Become More Accountable

BBC To Become More Accountable

In a document published today by the BBC, An Accountable BBC, the governors are changing the way they operate to become more accountable to the licence payers.

The main reforms being introduced are:

  • Holding management to account to follow new guidelines on strategy
  • Extra regional advisory bodies to stay better in touch with public opinion.
  • An improved complaints procedure
  • A more detailed Annual Report and Accounts.

BBC Chairman, Marmaduke Hussey, said: “The reforms flow from two related principles. First, the BBC should be open, responsive and sensitive to the needs of the licence payer. Second, the BBC should set out and publish clear objectives, reflecting the public’s needs and interests, and report frankly to Parliament and the public on its success, or failure, in achieving them”
