BBC To Televise European Rugby Cup

Following on from ITV’s decision to drop coverage of the event, the BBC has announced that it is to start broadcasting the Heineken European Rugby Cup. Coverage will be split between BBC1 who will show the live matches on Grandstand and BBC2 who will show highlights of the weekend’s matches as part of Rugby Special.

Coverage will start on Sunday November 17th with highlights of the four quarter-finals played that weekend. An announcement about which semi-final will be shown live will follow the completion of the quarter-finals, with the final being shown live on January 25th.

Jonathan Martin, Controller of Television Sport, said: “We are happy to step in to cover the European Rugby Cup. We have been pursuing a deal for several weeks and are pleased to be bringing viewers coverage of the event from now on.”
