BBC Triumphs In Weekend Sport
Overnight viewing figures for the weekend’s sports coverage show that the BBC’s coverage of the FA Cup Final on Saturday achieved a significantly higher audience than ITV’s coverage of the Endsleigh League play-off between Charlton and Crystal Palace on Sunday.
First indications show however that this year’s Cup Final was not as widely viewed as 1994’s final when Manchester United again won the double: consolidated ratings for ABC1 Men were 37.5 and 37.4 for Men.
| Audience | BBC1 TVR (Sat) | ITV TVR (Sun) |
|---|---|---|
| Men | 34.2 | 7.9 |

| 16-34 Adults | 23.5 | 5.6 |

In the Granada region, home to both teams, men took an 89% share of viewing and ABC1 Men a 93% share. The average ratings were also higher than the network, with Men achieving a rating of 39.3 and ABC1 Men 41.0.
In terms of the Sunday game Men had the highest share of viewing with 34.9% compared to 31.7% of ABC1 Men.
