BBC Two’s new programme, Amazon with Bruce Parry, pulled in a peak of more than 3.4 million viewers last night, putting it well ahead of Channel 4 in the 9pm ratings war.
The first in the series, which saw the former Royal Marine go on a journey to find the source of the river in the Peruvian mountain, gained a 13.5% audience share between 9pm and 10pm.
BBC One’s New Tricks proved to be popular once again, despite being a repeat, as it attracted the highest audience figures during its hour long slot.
The crime drama, starring Alun Armstrong and Amanda Redman, banked 5.4 million viewers and a 23% audience share.
The Children on ITV1 picked up around 4.6 million viewers with just under 20% of the audience share at the same time.
Channel 4’s The Price of Property, with Jon Henley, managed to attract just one million viewers, coming behind Five’s Extreme Fishing sports show with Robson Green, which pulled in 1.2 million peak viewers.
