BBC Worldwide Calls Time On Blue Peter Magazine

BBC Worldwide has announced plans to close its Blue Peter magazine for five to eight year-olds, just over two years after its launch.
The last issue of the 32-page title, which featured presenters from the UK’s longest running children’s TV show in a regular comic strip, as well as photo features, recipes and competitions, will be published in August.
Publisher, Toni Round, said: “While last year’s relaunch of the title created what we all believed to be an incredibly strong pre-teen magazine, sales did not increase in the way we had hoped and expected.”
BBC Worldwide insists that efforts are currently being made to find suitable employment for the magazine’s staff elsewhere within the company.
The latest ABC results for the six months to December 2002 put the circulation of Blue Peter magazine at 39,393. This is some way behind BBC Wordwide’s other children’s titles, which include Girl Talk, Bob The Builder and BBC Learning is Fun!
BBC Magazines recently launched a new magazine for boys aged four to seven, entitled Action Hero, which is intended to bridge the gap between unisex pre-school magazines and more advanced titles for older children (see BBC Eyes Boys Market With Action Launch).
