BBC Worldwide Launches Pre-School Mag

BBC Worldwide Launches Pre-School Mag

BBC Worldwide is to launch a new pre-school title called BBC Toybox Teach Me aimed at introducing children to language, literacy and maths.

The magazine, which launches on 1 October, will feature BBC pre-school characters such as Bob the Builder and the Tweenies and will have a cover price of £1.50. It will be supported by in-store promotional activity and will have an initial print run of 100,000.

The magazine will join other BBC Learning Together titles such as; The Magic Key, Number Time and BBC Learning is Fun!, which are aimed at an older five to seven audience.

Group Publisher, Toni Round, said: “The philosophy behind all our educational magazines is that children learn best when they are having fun. That’s obviously very important with pre-school children and they’ll have lots of fun with all their favourite characters in Toy Box Teach Me.”

BBC Worldwide’s decision to expand its Learning Together range stems from its success in drawing revenue from a relatively small niche market. The latest set of ABC results showed circulation figures above 60,000 for both Magic Key and Learning is Fun!.

BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, saw sales rise 14% to £73m last year (see BBC Publishes Annual Report).
