BBC Worldwide’s Radio Times Gets New Editor

BBC Worldwide has appointed former launch editor of Eve magazine, Gill Hudson, as the new editor of the Radio Times.
Hudson, who takes up the position next Monday, will replace Nigel Horne who left the magazine last month after less than a year in the job. Publishing director of the Radio Times, Ashley Munday, described Hudson as “one of the industry’s best known talents”.
He said: “Gill has a passion for magazines that is hard to resist and she will now help to take the Radio Times to even greater success as we lead the way in the multi-channel listings market.”
Hudson, who leaves behind her role as editorial director of new product development at BBC Magazines, was launch editor of BBC Worldwide’s women’s lifestyle title Eve. The fashion, beauty and health title, which is aimed at upmarket 25-54 year-olds, reported an initial circulation of 121,157.
Prior to joining the BBC, Hudson was editorial director at Dennis Publishing, where she oversaw the launch of men’s lifestyle magazine Maxim. She has also edited Emap’s New Woman and Natmags’ Company.
Commenting on her appointment, Hudson said: “Expect a Radio Times that will be as authoritative and comprehensive as ever but with a few new things that will take many in the industry by surprise.”
Earlier in the year, BBC Worldwide launched a six-figure advertising campaign to promote the Radio Times among lapsed and occasional readers (see Radio Times Gets Marketing Boost). According to the ABC results for the six-month period ending December 2001, the TV and radio listings magazine, which launched almost 80 years ago, saw circulation decline 5% year on year to 1,200,615.
