A study into violence on television which was commissioned by the BBC and ITC and undertaken by the University of Sheffield, has revealed that violence on terrestrial television accounts for 0.61% of programme output time, compared with 1.1% in 1986. The study found that most violence takes place in feature films, accounting for 53% of all violence in output. Other drama accounts for 17%, of which home produced programming contains less than acquired programmes/series. Most violence in programmes occurs after the Watershed.
