BDB Brands DTT Service As ON-digital
British Digital Broadcasting (BDB) has today named the 15-channel digital terrestrial TV (DTT) service which it is due to launch this year as ON-digital.
There has been speculation as to how BDB intends to compete with BSkyB’s 200-channel digital satellite service. BDB, however, claims that its service is not competing head to head with that Sky’s, and that it is targeting a ‘distinct market.’
A spokesperson for BDB claims that 75% of the population have as yet not subscribed to multichannel TV, and a survey carried out by the company revealed that 68% of people would opt for multichannel television for the right price. This points to competitive pricing as being an integral part of BDB’s competitive strategy, although the actual pricing, described by a spokesperson as ‘very competitive and very good value’, will not be revealed until September.
It is understood that the Channel Four film service (see Newsline) is keen to be carried by ON-digital, but Channel Four were unavailable for comment today when contacted by Newsline.
