BE: New Rules For Local Radio Stations

The Flemish Radio Association has complained to the EC that the Belgian state broadcaster BRTN enjoys unfair and anti-competitive advantages over radio advertising, as a consequence of highly-restrictive frequency and broadcasting regulations. Local radio stations are not permitted to broadcast to areas greater than 8km from where they are based. The Association claims that this inevitably means that BRTN accrues much more advertising revenue, as advertisers seek to reach the widest possible audience.
