Beat FM Joins Bids For Scottish Radio Licence

The Radio Authority (RA) yesterday received another application for the Scottish independent local radio (ILR) licence, from Scotland-based consortium Beat FM. The closing date for submissions is today.

Beat FM’s proposal describes the planned service as ‘loud, hot and new’. The station’s target audience is 15-34 year olds. The application says: “It will “be there” for young Scots with a fresh, dynamic mix of new rock, dance and information that matters – the best entertainment guide, and short, relevant features – all wrapped up with fast, stylish presentation.”

Beat FM says that its studios will be fully digital and that it hopes to be on the digital audio broadcasting (DAB) dial as soon as possible.

Chairman, Ron McCulloch, is very confident of Beat FM’s proposals: “We’re a fantastic team with superb skills in music, radio and marketing. Our application is terrific and we believe that we’ve made an irresistible case for Beat FM. I’m confident that even our rivals will agree that our submission is impressive for its thoroughness, originality, flair and passion and for our group’s unparalleled grass roots involvement in the music and leisure industries in Scotland.”

Capital Radio has also applied for the licence with its kids’ Fun Radio format (see Capital Plans Fun Radio For Scotland).

The Authority is expected to announce the winner of the licence in November this year.
