Bids for the European outdoor advertising company, Avenir, were submitted on last Friday night after months of discussions. A number of groups have tabled offers, including Clear Channel, TDI, J C Decaux, Outdoor Systems and possibly News International.
News International would not comment on reports that it has made a £400 million bid for the outdoor company, also the owner of the UK’s Mills & Allen poster group.
Avenir has been holding discussions with possible merger partners since its parent, French media company Havas, merged with Générale des Eaux last year to form Vivendi. Vivendi also holds a 34% in French broadcaster Canal Plus. It is understood that Havas is anticipating a relatively rapid sale of Avenir.
