Big Brother Audiences Continue Growth
![]()
Big Brother is continuing to grow in popularity as the third series of the reality show approaches its halfway point. Defying fears that interest would not be sustained for another year, the average audience for week four was 5.1m and a 25% share of available audience. This represents a 17% increase on the audience size for the same point in the series last year and is also up compared to last week (see Big Brother We’re Watching You).
The highest rated Big Brother show last week was the 10pm eviction, when Spencer, one of two popular housemates up for eviction, left the house. This attracted an average audience of 5.8m and a 29% share. The earlier 8.30pm show, when the eviction decision was announced, attracted 5.1m viewers and a 25% share of available audience.
Last week’s shows on Channel 4 averaged a 46% 16-34 profile, up from 43% for the equivalent period the previous year. E4 is also benefiting from the Big Brother effect. Its average share last week of 4.6% made it the most watched non-terrestrial channel in multi-channel homes.
The Big Brother website has so far averaged over 3 million hits per day. During last week there were 21.8 million page impressions over the week, up 41% year on year. Of these, 18.2 were unique users. To date the site has had 99.5 million page impressions and 77.5 million unique users.
