Big Brother blazed back onto our screens last night, with its most successful launch night ever, in a gaudy explosion of freaks and geeks once again vying to win our affections.
An average of 6.2 million adults watched last night’s opening show, compared with last year’s average of 5.1 million, giving a 29% share of viewing. We can therefore rest assured that the nation’s offices will be buzzing with talk of Shahbaz, Bonnie and the rest of the gang until the heart stopping finale in 13 weeks time.
Almost as soon as the housemates entered, Big Brother sprang its first surprise, where two housemates became leaders of an elite group known as the Big Brotherhood and therefore immune from next Friday’s first eviction.
Channel 4 has signed a deal with virgin.net, NTL and Telewest for clips to be delivered online as it seeks to immerse the nation in another bout of BB fever, with NTL customers able to view a live feed as part of their broadband plus package.
And just remember, if you get really upset at the thought of not being able to spend your time trapped in a house with a bunch of lunatics, one lucky punter will be thrown in if they can just find the golden ticket hidden inside a Kit-Kat wrapper.
Angela Jain, Channel 4 commissioning editor for Big Brother, said, “This heralds the most fantastic kick start to Big Brother yet. As always, there are many twists and turns ahead, among them the golden ticket winner, and we remain as committed as ever to making this year’s Big Brother as entertaining as the rest.”
