Big Jump in US Online Shoppers For 2nd Week of Xmas Season
The week of 4 – 10 Decmber 1998 showed an 80% increase in online holiday shopping in the US compared to the previous week, according to new research by Media Metrix – powered by RelevantKnowledge.
Surprisingly, the majority of onlineshoppers during this seven day period were women (55%), marking a 90% increase in female unique visitors from the week of 27 November – 3 December 1998 (the first week after Thanksgiving).
Department store sites showed the biggest visitation increase from the first to the second week, with 137% more unique visitors.
