Bite Magazine First Issue Report

Bite Magazine First Issue Report

Bite, the glossy women’s monthly from Ann Summers, hits the newsstands this week with an ambitious print run of 180,000. The 100-page magazine is aimed at 25-34 ABC1 women and has a cover price of £1.95.

While most of the editorial centres around the subject of sex it differs from the plethora of women’s erotic magazines that have launched in the last 12 months. Existing titles such as For Women and Women on Top centre around pin-ups of naked men, Bite prefers to tackle the subject using words. Features in the first issue include ‘Condoms Road Tested’, actors talking about sex scenes and do blondes really have more fun.

Unlike the erotic magazines, Bite’s editorial does cover topics other than sex. The more conventional fashion pages are similar to those found in other women’s magazines such as Marie Claire and Cosmopolitan. Also in the first issue is a feature on jealousy and an interview with Willem Dafoe.

Of the magazine’s 100 pages around 13% are given over to advertising, all of which is display. Those taking full page ads in the first issue include Clairol, Coppertone and Pretty Polly.
