BMRB Assesses Net Awareness

According to recent figures published by BMRB International, Internet awareness in the past year has risen considerably. As coverage of the Internet has increased more people know what the Internet is. Awareness amongst adults has also increased from 60% to 81% and from 82% to 96% amongst ABs, compared to last August.

The TGI New Media Monitor, syndicated by BMRB, surveyed 1,000 adults and found that 42% (10% more than last year) had a good understanding of the Internet including 63% of AB’s (compared to 52% last year).

Contrary to these figures, many did not know, in depth, the uses of the Internet. 84% knew that messages could be sent abroad and 76% knew ideas could be exchanged but only 58% knew magazines and newspapers could be browsed. Little was known about products being bought through the Net while14% believed that the Internet could receive satellite television.
