Border TV Reports Growth
Border TV Plc held its A.G.M. yesterday and reported growth in both its television and radio divisions. Advertising revenue for the two sectors rose by 25% in a year-on-year comparison for the quarter ended July 31st. The group’s share price rose from £3.82p at the year end in April to 538˝p at the close of trading yesterday.
The group reported substantial gains in it radio division which moved into profitability for the first time in July. Its Century stations in the North West, North East and East Midlands reported an increase of 16% in the latest RAJAR figures and the brand now has more than 1.3 million listeners a week, making it one of the fastest growing brands outside London. The longest established station, Century Radio in the North East, increased its reach from 18% to 26%.
Border Television advertising was ahead of that of ITV as a whole, rising by more than 10% in June and July. For seven out of nine months this year, Border has outperformed ITV revenue growth, exceeding 0.7% of network revenue each month since May.
For the coming year Border has confirmed it will be applying for new Century licences for the West Midlands and Yorkshire and is considering making a second bid for a London digital multiplex licence.
