Bottomley Limits Porn Channel’s Exposure

National Heritage Secretary Virgina Bottomley has confirmed that the Government is to take action against the pornographic satellite television service XXXTV (previously known as ‘TV Erotica’)

An Order has been issued which will proscribe the service in this country, making the supply of dedicated equipment (eg smartcards) and programme material, advertising for or on XXTV, and the provision of any other service in support of XXXTV a criminal offence.

Mrs Bottomley said, “This kind of television service is unacceptable. The Government will not allow such degrading material to be easily available in this country. Television is a powerful medium. It is overwhelmingly a force for good. I want it to open up opportunities for our children. I do not want television to deliver a pornographic diet of degradation.”
