Boys Like Bottom – New Research

The top television programme for boys aged 6-11 is Rick Mayall and Adrian Edmondson’s Bottom, a past the 9pm watershed comedy; this is according to new research from MBS Media.
Among boys and girls Neighbours is the overall favourite TV programme, followed by Eastenders, Home and Away and The Bill; Bottom is in fifth place. For comics, The Beano is favourite for both boys and girls, followed by Shoot for boys and Shout for girls; the Dandy is in third place for both groups. Pizza is the favourite food, followed by burgers, fish and chips, curry, spaghetti and Chinese.
Reebok emerges as the favourite brand, with other popular names being Nike, and Lee jeans. Andrex is the favourite television ad, followed by Safeway’s Harry ads; next is Dime bar and Tesco, followed by Weetabix, Tango and Gary Lineker and Walker’s Crisps.
The research was carried out among 500 children. MBS head of research Frank Gould comments; “The research proves that children definitely have minds of their own and many parents will be surprised by their choices, not least of Bottom. Children obviously like good dirty fun, especially if they get to stay up late. In terms of marketing and advertising to children it’s interesting to see how well Safeway and Tesco do. Safeway has obviously set out to make children part of their target group and this seems to have paid off handsomely.”
