Britain Turns Out In Force For National Cinema Day

The cinema industry is claiming success after Sunday’s National Cinema Day saw over one million people attending cinemas. Organised by the film industry to celebrate a century of cinema, every cinema charged only £1 all day.

With a few returns still to be filed, Sunday’s total admittance stands at 1.1 million; the highest Sunday attendance on record, and more than two and a half times the average Sunday attendance figure of 400,000.

There were over 150 films for movie-goers to choose from; as well as current releases there were 27 previewing films and classics ranging from Casablanca to the Sound of Music.
