Bruno Attracts Over 3m Satellite Viewers

Press reports this morning claim that BSkyB is celebrating the largest ever audience achieved by satellite television in the UK for Saturday night’s exclusive coverage of Frank Bruno’s world title boxing match.

Unofficial overnight figures put the peak viewing figure at 3.43m viewers; one million more viewers than previous satellite records. Sky claims this figure is more likely to have been between 10m and 20m including those watching the fight at pubs.

The most recent week for which official BARB figures are available, w/e 20th August, shows cable and satellite with a 9.7% share of viewing, its highest ever share. Cable and satellite’s viewing is growing steadily; last August the average share for the month was 7.2%; this August it is expected to be 9% for the first time.

The average viewing figures for August will be released next Wednesday.
