BSC Chairman Resigns
The chairman of the Broadcasting Standards Commission resigned yesterday after the News Of The World printed a series of revelations about his private life. Lord Holme of Cheltenham handed in his notice to Culture Secretary Chris Smith after the newspaper published details about his extra-marital affairs.
The peer said he had decided to “fall on my sword” because it would be wrong to try to continue to uphold broadcasting standards in the face of the disclosures.
The news came as the BSC published its latest report, which shows an increasing amount of concern amongst viewers about the level of sex and violence on television. Further details of this report will appear on Newsline shortly.
